Dating back to 2020, the SEG (Smart Export Guarantee) is an initiative that allows owners of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) panels (amongst other users of renewable energy) fitted by MCS accredited installers to export the energy they don’t need back to the National Grid. Your supplier (provided they are an SEG licensee) will pay you a small amount for each unit of energy you export.

Different SEG licensees will have different contract lengths, payment rates and terms, so it’s a good idea to do some research before you choose.
